After November 1st, German identity documents can now be received by post. For a small postal fee, passports, ID cards, and eID residence cards will be sent directly to your home, sparing you a second trip to the responsible administrative office. At your initial appointment for the documents, you will receive a PIN letter with which you can activate your eID, and the new identity documents can then be sent to your home address. While the legal requirements for this service are already in place, the technical and organizational adjustments will likely take until spring 2025 to be fully implemented.
