BVG Transitions to Cashless Payments
10. September 2024

If you’re riding the bus in Berlin, don’t forget: since this week, it’s cashless payments only! Berlin’s public transport company BVG, has fully transitioned to digital payments, allowing riders to pay by debit, credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and even rechargeable BVG cards. Why the change? Well, BVG says the majority of passengers — about 99 percent — already board with a valid ticket, and only a handful of tickets were being paid for with cash. The shift aims to make things smoother and faster for both passengers and bus drivers. This move follows the end of the cash ban from the pandemic days and so far, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many passengers already embracing the new system.
