The EU is making strides toward sustainability. Starting in 2025, all smartphones, tablets, and small devices sold in the EU must adopt the USB-C charging standard. By spring 2026, this obligation will extend to laptops as well. Under these new regulations, consumers will no longer face the inconvenience of needing a different charger for each new device they purchase. Instead, they will be able to utilize a single charger compatible with a wide array of small and medium-sized portable electronic devices. Additionally, buyers will be able to choose whether to purchase a new device with or without a charging device. The change aims to reduce the 11,000 tons of e-waste generated annually from incompatible chargers through these standardized charging solutions.
