Heightened Border Controls Show Little Effect
1. Oktober 2024

On September 16, Germany expanded its border controls, particularly at the borders with the Benelux countries, France and Denmark. According to the police union GdP, these heightened measures have shown little effect in terms of improving security or managing migration flows.
The decision to increase border checks was primarily aimed at addressing concerns over illegal immigration and enhancing public safety. However, the GdP has reported that despite these efforts, there has been no significant change in the situation. Critics argue that such measures may not effectively tackle the root causes of migration or crime and could instead lead to longer wait times for travelers and increased frustration among citizens.
