Germany’s Bird of the Year 2026 is the humble Rebhuhn (partridge) — a species once so common that it inspired nursery rhymes, and now so rare that conservationists are calling its election „a comeback campaign with feathers.“ Environmentalists say it’s time to make fields friendlier again for the bird that „used to outnumber tractors.“ Maybe „A Partridge in a Pear Tree“ will feel a little more local next Christmas.
