Slow Start for Berlin’s New Online Anmeldung
10. Dezember 2024

In October, Berlin introduced a new online system for newcomers to complete their Anmeldung —essentially their registration process. Fast forward nearly two months, and it seems that only 7.3 percent of registrations have been completed using this online service. The initial hope was to ease the burden on Bürgerämter and free up time for other appointments. However, so far, just 5,500 registrations have been filed online. Berlin’s Chief Digital Officer, Martina Klement, remains optimistic about the early results of this new service. In the coming year, Berlin will launch a campaign to raise awareness of services which are newly available online and Klement hopes that in the future around a third of residents will use the online Anmeldung to register their address.
